Modest Mussorgsky

Born: 1839, Karevo (Pskov Province)
Died: 1881, St Petersburg

Composer. Born in Karevo in Pskov Province in the family of landowner Pyotr Mussorgsky (1839). Wrote the operas Boris Godunov (1872) and Khovanshchina (1880). Member of the Russian Five. Performed in charity concerts in St Petersburg (from 1875). Died of alcoholism in St Petersburg and buried at the St Alexander Nevsky Monastery (1881).
