Grand Duke Peter Petrovich I was the eighth child and third son of Peter the Great and Catherine I. He was born in St Petersburg on 27 October 1715. Favourite child of Peter and Catherine. Declared the heir to the Russian throne in 1718. Died of an incurable disease in St Petersburg on 25 April 1719 and buried in St Lazarus’s Church. Reburied at the St Alexander Nevsky Monastery in 1725.
