Graphic artist, painter, applied artist. illustrator. Sister of the artist Vasily Polenov. Studied under Ivan Kramskoi (from 1864), at Charles Chaplin’s studio in Paris (1869–70), Pavel Chistyakov’s private studio (1870–77, with intervals) and the School of Drawing of the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts (1878–80). Trained at Yevdokim Yegorov’s ceramics studio in Paris (1880) and headed the ceramic class at the School of Drawing of the Society for the Encouragement of Artists (1881–82). Moved to Moscow and joined the Abramtsevo circle (1882), where she headed the wood-carving studio. Contributed to exhibitions (from 1882). Contributed to the exhibitions of the Moscow Society of Lovers of the Arts, Society of Travelling Art Exhibitions, Moscow Fellowship of Artists, World Fair in Chicago (1893), Pan-Russian Exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod (1896) and posthumously to the World of Art (1899, 1900).
