Painter, teacher. Born in St Petersburg in the family of a retired sergeant of the Vyatka Infantry Regiment called Yeremei Yakovlev (1787). Studied under Stepan Schukin at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1798–1808). Awarded a minor silver medal (1805), major silver medal (1806), minor gold medal (1808) and first-class certificate. Nominated to the Imperial Academy of Arts (1811), academician (1812). Painted icons for the Naval Hospital on Kronstadt. Taught drawing and plaster at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1814–26), class head (1826–31), drawing at the Military Academy of Minining (from 1818) and jurisprudence at the Patriotic Institute (from 1829), School of Jurisprudence (from 1838) and the House of Industry. Professor of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1839). Died in St Petersburg (1843).
