Painter, graphic artist, illustrator. Born in the family of a serf called Pyotr Kondratenko in the village of Pavlovskoe in Penza Province (1854). Studied history painting under Karlis Jekabs Vilhelms Huns (1873–82) and landscape painting under Baron Mikhail Clodt von Jürgensburg (from 1875) at the Imperial Academy of Arts. Visited Italy and Greece (1890–1900, 1914). Travelled across Russia, Ukraine, Caucasus and the Crimea. Illustrated the works of Alexander Pushkin and Mikhail Lermontov. Member of the Fellowship of Illustrators (1892), St Petersburg Society of Artists (1893) and the Arkhip Kuinji Society (1910). Died in an unknown location (1924).
