Swedish-Finnish jeweller, goldsmith, silversmith. Hallmark: OP in an oval. Born in the family of a Swedish tailor called Johan Gustaf Pihl (1822–?) and his wife Eva Lovisa Alenius (1827–?) in the village of Bollsta (Bollstad) near the municipality of Pohja (Pojo) in south-west Finland (1860). Trained in the workshop of August Wilhelm Holmström in St Petersburg (1880s) and married his daughter Fanny Florentina Holmström (1887), who gave birth to five children, including jewellers Alma Theresia Pihl (1888–1976) and Oskar Woldemar Pihl (1890–1959). Qualified as a master (1887) and headed the workshop of Carl Fabergé at 4 Bolshoi Kisel Lane in Moscow (1887–97). Died at the age of thirty-seven in Moscow (1897).
