Painter, draughtsman, caricaturist. Born in the town of Ufa in Orenburg Province (now Bashkortostan) in the family of a serf called Isaac Timashevsky (1822). Awarded his freedom from a landowner called Bulgakov. Studied under Fidelio Bruni at the Imperial Academy of Arts (until 1850). Awarded a major silver medal (1848), minor silver medal (1849), minor gold medal and the title of class artist (1850) and a major gold medal (1851). Foreign fellow of the Imperial Academy of Arts in Italy (1852–64). Non-class artist (1854), academician (1860). Returned to St Petersburg (1864). Died in St Petersburg and buried at the St Mitrophan Cemetery (1866).
