German medallist, coin engraver. Son of the glass-cutter Ignaz Gube. Studied in Vienna and worked for Gottfried Bernhard Loos in Berlin. Elected a member of the Königlich Preussische Akademie der Künste in Berlin (1829). Invited to Russia, where he was appointed chief engraver and medallist of the St Petersburg Mint (1830). Taught at the medallion class of the School of Mining and Technology and the Technological Institute. Designed more than twenty medals.
