Painter, graphic artist, theatrical designer, teacher. Born in the family of Mikhail Yermolaev in the village of Pustyn in Ivanovo Region (1934). Studied at the Palekh School of Art (1949–54). Worked at the Palekh Studios of Art and Industry (from 1954). Member of the Union of Artists (1960). Taught at the Palekh School of Art (1963–66). Honoured Artist of the RSFSR (1967), People’s Artist of the RSFSR (1974). Winner of the Lenin Komsomol Prize (1970). Chairman of the Palekh branch of the Union of Artists (1970–81). Died and buried in the village of Pustyn in Ivanovo Region (2001). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1954), including Fairytales in Russia at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2000).
