Filmmaker, photographer, painter. Born in the family of Georgy Yufit in Leningrad (1961). Graduated from the Leningrad Metal Works Technical College (1984). Founded the Necrorealism group, investigating the border zone between life and death and different psychological and psychopathological processes (1984). Took up photography, film directing and painting. Created a series of experimental films (1985). Trained under Alexander Sokurov at Lenfilm Studios (1988–89). Won the grand prix at the Rimini Film Festival with Daddy, Grandfather Frost is Dead! (1991). Shot such films as Will (1994) The Wooden Room (1995), Silver Heads (1998) and Killed by Lightning (2002).
