Artist, teacher. Born in the family of Pyotr Friesen (1888). Studied at the Kharkiv School of Art, Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture and the studio of Konstantin Juon (1920s). Forced to abandon studies and take up teaching for financial reasons. Taught in Krasnodar and at the Melitopole Pedagogical Institute. Arrested on a false charge and sentenced to Karlag (1935). Remained in Karaganda following his release. Headed a studio of art at the Mining Palace of Culture (until 1966). Taught such artists as L. Smaglyuk, A. Syrov, Y. Wolf and S. Konurov. Painted small studies in the realistic style of the 1960s. Died in Karaganda (1978).
