Graphic artist, painter, illustrator, teacher. Born in St Petersburg (1905) in the family of Vladimir Shishmaryov (1875–1957) and Anna Usova (1877–1956). Studied under Nikolai Kupriyanov and Natalia Iznar at IZO studio in Kostroma (1918–21), under Nikolai Radlov and Mstislav Dobuzhinsky in the studio of the House of Arts in Petrograd (1922) and in the studio of Alexander Savinov (1923). Worked under Vladimir Lebedev in the children’s department of the State Publishing House (from 1926). Taught architecture at the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1944–47). Died in St Petersburg and buried in Komarovo (1994).
