Painter, draughtsman, etcher, illustrator. Born in the family of a lawyer called Sergei Alfeyevsky in Moscow (1906). Attended the studios of Mikhail Le Blanc (1921) and Ilya Mashkov (1924) and studied under Alexander Osmyorkin, Ilya Mashkov, David Sterenberg, Sergei Gerasimov, Konstantin Istomin and Lev Bruni at the VKhUTEMAS/VKhUTEIN in Moscow (1925–30). Member of the Society of Easel Artists (1929–30). Collaborated with children’s publishing houses (from 1930). Illustrated the fairytales of Hans Christian Andersen, E.T.A. Hoffmann and Samuel Marshak. Honoured Artist of the RSFSR. Died in Moscow (1989). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1929).
