Sculptor. Born as Ivan Ivanov in the family of a carpenter called Dmitry Ivanov in the town of Shadrinsk in Perm Province (1887). Later adopted the name of his hometown as his pseudonym. Studied at the Ekaterinburg School of Art and Industry (1901–06), School of Theatre, School of Music and Drama, School of Drawing of the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts (1907–09) and in studios in Paris and Rome (1910–13). Member of the Society of Russian Sculptors (1927). Died in Moscow and buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery (1941). Posthumous winner of the Stalin Prize for statue of Maxim Gorky at the Belorussian Railway Station in Moscow (1952). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1923).
