Painter, graphic artist, book illustrator. Born Yevgeny Sheffer in the family of exiled photojournalist Vladimir Sheffer in the city of Aktyubinsk (renamed Aktobe in 1999) in north-west Kazakhstan (1954). Studied at art school in Moscow (1967–71), Moscow Institute of Polygraphy (1972–77) and the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna (1988–93). Awarded the degree of Master of Fine Arts and a gold medal by the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna (1993). Representative of New Classicism. Lives and works in Berlin. Contributed to exhibitions, including Play and Passion in Russian Fine Art at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (1999–2000), Jesus Christ in Christian Art and Culture (14th to 20th Centuries) at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2000) and Times of Change: Art in the Soviet Union (1960–85) at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2006).
