Finger rings were popular in Russia in the seventeenth century. They were worn on all the fingers on ceremonial occasions, with sometimes more than one ring on each finger. The forms and decor of seventeenth-century rings were extremely diverse. Large and often decorated with enamel, they were kept in special caskets. Rings were given as presents on weddings, christenings and name-days in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
