Sergei Diaghilev opened the Exhibition of Russian and Finnish Artists at the Baron Stieglitz Museum in St Petersburg in January 1898. This was the first joint action of the World of Art. Besides contributions from such Finnish masters as Albert Edelfelt, Akseli Gallen-Kallela and Eero Järnefelt, the exhibition showed works by fellow pupils of Alexander Benois at the Karl May Grammar School – Konstantin Somov, Léon Bakst and Yevgeny Lanceray – and such other artists as Apollinary Vasnetsov, Mikhail Vrubel, Konstantin Korovin, Valentin Serov, Isaac Levitan, Sergei Malyutin, Mikhail Nesterov and Andrei Ryabushkin. The exhibition poster was designed by Konstantin Somov in 1897.
