There was an old man, who had a cat and a cockerel. One day, a fox sat underneath their window and sang:
Oh cockerel, with the golden crest,
Oh cock-a-doodle-do!
Look out of the window and
See what I have for you!
The cockerel put its head out of the window and was caught by the fox. The fox carried it off, but the frightened cockerel cried for help and was heard by the cat. The brave cat ran after the fox and rescued the cockerel. The cat took the cockerel home and told it not to poke its head out of the window again. The next day, the fox returned to the house and threw grains of corn in the window. Before he knew it, the cockerel was in the fox’s clutches. The cockerel called out to the cat, who came and saved it again. The next day, the fox again sang outside the window. The unwitting cockerel stuck its head out and was caught by the fox. Although it called and called, nobody heard its cries. The fox ate the cockerel, and nothing was left of the cockerel but feathers.
