Architect, painter, theatrical designer. Born in St Petersburg in the family of a postal customs official called Stepan Nikitin (1811). Studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1821–33). Foreign fellow of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1834–40). Academician of decorative painting (1841). Designed buildings in Tsarskoe Selo (1842–78). Died in Tsarskoe Selo (1881).
