Johann Balthasar Gass
Swiss jeweller, medallist. Lived in Russia (from 1760s). Worked at the St Petersburg Mint as assistant engraver (1768–72) and chief engraver (1772–97). Collaborated with Johann Caspar Gottlieb Jaeger, created the Historical Medal Series and engraved medals commemorating important events in the reign of Catherine the Great (1762–96).
