Fyodor Churikov

Fyodor Churikov (1791–1853), Russian painter, graphic artist, teacher. Studied history painting at the Imperial Academy of Arts. Lived and worked in Voronezh, where he founded a school of drawing.

Painter, graphic artist, teacher. Born in the family of a nobleman called Fyodor Churikov in the village of Zemlyansk in Voronezh Province (1791). Studied history painting at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1805–11). Awarded a minor silver medal (1809) and a first-class certificate (1811). Lived and worked in Voronezh (1820s–30s), where he was awarded a golden snuff-box for a perspective view of the apartment of Tsar Alexander I (1821). Depicted the ceremonial opening of the relics of Bishop Mitrophan in Voronezh (1832). Founded a school of drawing in Voronezh (1835–40). Lived in poverty (1840s) and died in the village of Zemlyansk in Voronezh Province (1853). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1800s). Contributed to the exhibitions of the Imperial Academy of Arts (from 1800s) and Russian Monasteries: Art and Traditions at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (1997).
