Painter. Descended from a family of French Huguenots exiled to West Prussia (1685), who moved to Russia (early 19th century). Son of the trader Ferdinand Gottlieb Ammont (died 1842), younger brother of the translator Herman Ammont (1822–1874). Studied landscape painting under Carl Wilhelm von Rabus at the Stroganov School of Technical Drawing (early 1840s) and the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1844–56). Awarded the title of non-class artist (1850). Academician of landscape painting (1859). Committee member of the Moscow Society of Lovers of the Arts (1862–64), member of the Society of Travelling Art Exhibitions (1872–79). Librarian of the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (from 1872). Painted rural landscapes and views of Moscow, contributing to the development of the Russian school of Realist landscape painting. Died in Moscow and buried at the German Cemetery in Lefortovo (1879). Contributed to the exhibitions of the Society of Travelling Art Exhibitions (1871–76, 1879).
