Vera Veselova

Vera Veselova (1919–2006): Russian applied artist, teacher. Studied at the Vologda School of Lace Embroidery and the Mikhail Kalinin School of Art and Industry in Moscow. Worked at the Markovskaya Lace Artel. Taught at the Vologda Lace Union and the Vologda School of Lace Embroidery. Worked at the Vologda Lace Union and the Snowflake Lacework Association in Vologda. Member of the Union of Artists, Honoured Artist of the RSFSR.

Applied artist, teacher. Born in the family of Dmitry Indichev in the village of Brevnovo in Vologda Province (1919). Studied at the Vologda School of Lace Embroidery (1933–35). Worked as head of production at the Markovskaya Lace Artel in Vologda Region (1935–37) and as a designer at the Vologda Lace Union (1938–39). Studied at the Mikhail Kalinin School of Art and Industry in Moscow (1939–41). Served in defence units outside Smolensk and Moscow during the Second World War (1941–42). Taught at the Vologda Lace Union and the Vologda School of Lace Embroidery (1942–45). Worked at the Vologda Lace Union (1945–59) and the Snowflake Lacework Association in Vologda (1959–74). Member of the Union of Artists (1957). Winner of the Ilya Repin Prize (1968), Honoured Artist of the RSFSR (1972). Died in Vologda (2006). Contributed to exhibitions, including Fairytales in Russia at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2000), The Magic of Spindles at the St Cyril of Belozersk Museum Complex of History, Architecture and Art in Kirillov (2013) and a one-woman show in Moscow (1957).
