Vitaly Kubasov

Painter, graphic artist, theatrical designer. Born in the family of Anatoly Kubasov in Moscow (1937). Studied under Alexei Katseblin at the Polytechnic Institute in Leningrad (1955–59) and under Nikolai Akimov and Tatyana Bruni at the Leningrad Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography (1959–64). Worked as the principal designer at the Chimkent (now Shymkent) Theatre of Drama in south Kazakhstan (1964–67). Returned to Leningrad (1967), where he worked on the Crusaders cycle (1978). Contributed to exhibitions, including Jesus Christ in Christian Art and Culture (14th to 20th Centuries) at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2000), Abstraction in Russia: XX Century at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2001–02) and Times of Change: Art in the Soviet Union (1960–85) at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2006).
