Wladimir Schengelaja

Wladimir Schengelaja (born 1949), Georgian abstract painter, graphic artist. Studied at Sukhumi School of Art and Tbilisi Academy of Arts. Member of the Union of Artists. Lives and works in Munich.

Georgian painter, graphic artist. Born in the family of Ilia Shengelaya in the town of Gagra in Abkhazia (1949). Studied at Sukhumi School of Art (1963–66) and Tbilisi Academy of Arts (1966–71). Member of the Union of Artists (1988). Worked as a freelance artist in Sukhumi (until 1992). Emigrated to Germany (1993), where he joined the Berufsverband Bildender Künstler (1994) and opened a studio at Kunstpark Ost in Munich (1997). Awarded German citizenship (2007). Lives and works in Munich. Contributed to exhibitions (from 1972).
