Boris Markovnikov

Boris Markovnikov (born 1958, Moscow), Russian abstract and minimalist painter, graphic artist, object artist, performance artist. Studied at the 1905 School of Art in Moscow. Member of Polygon. Lives and works in Moscow.

Painter, graphic artist, collagist, object artist, performance artist. Born in the family of Vladimir Markovnikov in Moscow (1958). Studied at the 1905 School of Art in Moscow (1974–78). Member of the Union of Artists (from 1983). Took up non-objective art (mid-1980s). Awarded a grant by the Union of Artists (1989–90). Founding member of Polygon (1990–96). Won a silver medal from the Russian Academy of Arts (2002), nominated for the Kandinsky Prize (2008). Lives and works in Moscow. Contributed to exhibitions in Russia (from 1983) and abroad (from 1988).
