Belkis Ayón Manso

Cuban artist. Born in Havana (1967). Graduated from the Escuela de Artes Plásticas San Alejandro (1986) and Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana (1991). Taught at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas San Alejandro and Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana (1993–98). Decorated at the I International Biennale of Graphic Art in Maastricht, Netherlands (1993). Decorated by the Ministerio de Cultura de Cuba for her contribution to national culture (1996). Vice-president of the Asociación de Artistas Plásticos de la Unión Nacional de Escritores y Artistas (1998). Committed suicide in Havana (1999).
