Vasily Vatagin

Sculptor, graphic artist, illustrator, teacher. Born in the family of Alexei Vatagin in Moscow (1883/84). Studied at Nikolai Martynov’s studio (from 1899), Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Moscow University (1902–07), Konstantin Juon and Ivan Dudin School of Art (1904–06) and lithography in Berlin (1910). Visited India (1913). People’s Artist of the RSFSR, full member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR. Died in Moscow and buried in Tarusa in Kaluga Region (1969). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1906).
