Olga Bulgakova

Born: 1951, Moscow

Painter, graphic artist. Wife of Alexander Sitnikov, mother of Natalia Sitnikova. Born in Moscow (1951) in the family of artists Vasily Bulgakov (1917–1970) and Matilda Halpern (1919–1998). Studied at the Moscow Secondary School of Art (1962–69) and under Dmitry Mochalsky at the Vasily Surikov Institute of Art in Moscow (1969–75). Member of the Union of Artists (1976). Won the grand prix at the II International Competition of Young Painters in Sofia (1979) and awarded a silver medal of the Russian Academy of Arts (2003). Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts (2007), full member of the Russian Academy of Arts (2012). Lives and works in Moscow. Contributed to exhibitions (from 1972), including Abstraction in Russia: XX Century at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2001–02), Portraiture in Russia: XX Century at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2001–02), Twosome at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2002–03) and Times of Change: Art in the Soviet Union (1960–85) at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2006).
