Alexandra Jacobson

Alexandra Jacobson (1903–1966): Russian draughtswoman, lithographer, painter, illustrator. Wife of graphic artist Minei Cooks. Studied under Ivan Kopylov at the Irkutsk State Free Art Studios, Pavel Filonov’s studio in Leningrad and under Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin and Alexander Savinov at the VKhUTEIN in Leningrad. Worked under Vladimir Lebedev at the department of children’s literature of the State Publishing House and at the experimental graphic studio of the Leningrad branch of the Union of Artists. Member of the Union of Artists.

Draughtswoman, lithographer, painter, illustrator. Wife of graphic artist Minei Cooks (1902–1979). Born in Irkutsk in the family of an exiled cabinet-maker called Nikolai Jacobson and his wife Maria (1903). Studied under Ivan Kopylov at the First Irkutsk Art Studio (1919–24), Pavel Filonov’s studio in Leningrad (1925–26) and under Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin and Alexander Savinov at the VKhUTEIN in Leningrad (1925–29). Worked under Vladimir Lebedev at the department of children’s literature of the State Publishing House (late 1920s–1930s) and at the experimental graphic studio of the Leningrad branch of the Union of Artists (1938–40s). Member of the Union of Artists (1941). Lithographed works on themes from the rural life of Novgorod Region (1950s–60s) and Russian folklore and fairytales (1960s). Died in Leningrad (1966). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1934), including First Exhibition of Works by Leningrad Artists at the Russian Museum in Leningrad (1935), Fairytales in Russia at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2000) and a one-woman show in Leningrad (1967).
