Vladimir Vetrogonsky

Graphic artist, illustrator, teacher. Born in the family of Alexander Vetrogonsky on a farm near the village of Pukhtayevo in Vologda Region (1923). Studied at the Leningrad Secondary School of Art (1939–42) and the Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1946–51). Fought and decorated in the Second World War (1941–45). Post-graduate student of the Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1951–55). Member of the Union of Artists (1952). Taught at the Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (from 1952), dean of the Faculty of Graphic Art (1973–2002). Illustrated and designed books for various publishing houses. Died in St Petersburg (2002). Contributed to exhibitions in Russia and abroad (from 1951), including over twenty one-man shows.
