Alexander Laktionov

Painter, graphic artist, teacher. Born in the family of a blacksmith called Ivan Laktionov in Rostov-on-Don (1910). Studied at a secondary school of art in Rostov-on-Don (1926–29), under Isaac Brodsky at the Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1932–38) and as a post-graduate student of Isaac Brodsky at the Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (until 1944). Taught at the Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1936–44) and the Moscow Correspondence Pedagogical Institute (1967–70, professor from 1968). Won the Stalin Prize (1948) and the Ilya Repin Prize (1960s). Corresponding (1949) and full (1958) member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR, People’s Artist of the RSFSR (1969). Died of heart disease in Moscow and buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery (1972). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1929).
