Painter, graphic artist, teacher. Born in the family of Fyodor Nikonov in Moscow (1930). Studied at the Moscow Secondary School of Art (1942–49) and the Vasily Surikov Institute of Art in Moscow (1949–56). Founder of the Severe Style in Soviet art (late 1950s–early 1960s). People’s Artist of Russia (1994). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1957).
