Semyon Spiridonov (Kholmogorets)
Icon-painter. Born in Kholmogory (1642). Worked in the leading artistic centres of central and northern Russia (second half of 17th century). Miniaturist and master of monumental painting. Developed the traditions of late sixteenth and early seventeenth century Russian icon-painting, while also paying tribute to the aesthetic tastes of secular society. Died in Kholmogory (1694 or 1695).
