Grand Duke Georgy Alexandrovich was the third child and third son of Alexander III and Maria Fyodorovna. He was born in Tsarskoe Selo (1871). He was the heir to the throne after the accession of Nicholas II (1894). He died of tuberculosis in Abbas-Tuman in Georgia (1899).

Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna wrote in her memoirs: “He was twenty-seven years old and his death was an irreplaceable loss. Intelligent and warm-hearted, the grand duke, with his charming personality, might have been an important support for Nicholas. Of all three brothers, he could have been a strong and popular tsar.”
