Princess Elena of Moscow

Princess Elena of Moscow was the first sixth and first daughter of Ivan III and Sophia Palaiologina. She was the third child of Ivan III and Sophia Palaiologina to be given this name after the couple’s first two children died in infancy. Both were girls and both were called Elena; the first was born in 1474 and the second was born in 1475. Princess Elena was born on 8 April 1484. She married Grand Duke Alexander of Lithuania (15 February 1495), who later became King Alexander Jagiellon of Poland (12 December 1501). She died in Vilnius on 20 January 1513 and was buried in Vilnius Cathedral.
