Scoop

The scoop (kovsh) was a special vessel intended for extracting ale or beer from barrels. They were carved from wood and decorated with fretwork or paintwork. Scoops were a traditional table decoration at wedding feasts and funerals. They were made from various materials, such as copper, wood and even tree stumps. The form of the object was reminiscent in silhouette of a duck.
