The Golden Apple and the Silver Plate

Once upon a time, there was an old man and an old woman, who had three daughters. One day, the old man gave the youngest daughter, Masha, a golden apple on a silver plate. The jealous sisters stole the apple and killed their sister. A reed sprung up on Masha’s grave; a shepherd picked the reed and made a pipe from it. The reed pipe told the shepherd how to bring Masha back to life, using crystal-clear water from the Tsar’s well. Masha came to life, was crowned Tsaritsa and forgave her sisters.
