St Sergius of Radonezh Cathedral

Also known as the Artillery Cathedral. Built by architect Johann Jakob Schumacher for the masters of the neighbouring Cannon Foundry and Artillery Sloboda (1744–46). Replaced with a new church by architect Fyodor Demertsov (1796–1800). Elevated to the status of cathedral (1803), awarded to the military (1832). Expanded by architect Leonty Benois, who added a new cupola made of concrete (1914–16). Partially dismantled and partially reconstructed for the OGPU (1934).
