Claudius Lebedev
Painter, graphic artist, teacher. Born in the family of a peasant called Vasily Lebedev (1852). Studied under Yevgraf Sorokin and Vasily Perov at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1875–81). Taught at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1890–94), professor of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1894–98). Member of the Society of Travelling Art Exhibitions (1894–1917). Academician (1897). Illustrated Nikolai Kutepov’s Tsarist Hunting in Rus and works of Russian classical literature. Died in Moscow (1916).
