Painter, graphic artist, theatrical designer, book designer, illustrator, teacher. Born in the family of Terenty Chupyatov in St Petersburg (1890). Studied at the private studios of Jan Ciagli?skj and Mikhail Bernstein (from 1908), under the guidance of Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin (from 1916) and under Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin at the State Free Art Studios in Petrograd (1918–19). Member of the World of Art (1916–18), Community of Individualist Artists (1922), Fire-Colour (1924), Community of Artists (1929) and the Unification of Modern Artists of the Ukraine (1928). Lived in Novgorod, taught drawing at naval college (1919–20). Designed sets and costumes for the Leningrad State Opera (1924), Ivan Franko Theatre in Kiev (1926) and the Moscow Arts Theatre (1927). Invited to teach theatrical design at the Academy of Arts (1929), worked in the department of the technique and technology of painting (1930s). Designed and illustrated books. Died in Leningrad (1941).
