Alexander Sigutin was born in Rostov-on-Don on 5 October 1959. In 1980, he graduated from the maritime academy in Rostov. Sigutin took art lessons from Boris Mygas and enrolled in 1981 at the art and graphic design department of the Rostov Pedagogical Institute. In 1977, he met Avdei Ter-Oganian. Sigutin was not a member of Art or Death and did not take part in its exhibitions, though he was friendly with all the group members. He moved to Moscow in 1991 and settled in the squat on Tryokhprudny Pereulok. Sigutin took part in many exhibitions at the gallery there and later moved with Avdei Ter-Oganian, Valery Koshlyakov and Yury Shabelnikov to the squat at 13 Bauman Street. The artist’s work develops the traditions of Conceptualism and the avant-garde. Alexander Sigutin lives and works in Moscow.
