Russian saint. Born Yevstafy in the family of a merchant called Stefan and his wife Anna in the town of Kashin in the Grand Duchy of Tver (1412). Helped St Sergius of Balaam to found the Balaam Monastery of the Transfiguration on Lake Ladoga. Returned to Novgorod and founded the St Nicholas of Perekom Monastery on the western shore of Lake Ilmen (c. 1450). Died at the St Nicholas of Perekom Monastery and buried in the Church of St Nicholas (1492). Canonised by the Russian Orthodox Church (1549), commemorated on 26 September/10 October 10 and 16/29 May.
