The Premier Site for Russian Culture
Formed on Petersburg Island near the Peter and Paul Fortress (early 18th century). Centre of St Petersburg (until 1730s). Accommodated Gostiny Dvor, Customs House, market (until 1710), Austeria Inn, printing works, Senate and Synod, Colleges and the commercial port. Named after the Trinity Church on the square (until 1933). Trinity “Provisions” Shops were built on the side near the River Neva by Luigi Rusca (early 19th century). Trinity Bridge and a granite embankment along the River Neva were built (1897–1903).
