Jean Georges (George)

Jean Georges or George (c. 1710–1765), French Rococo jeweller, goldsmith, silversmith. Hallmark: J G. Lived and worked in Paris, where he opened a workshop and specialised in gold and enamelled snuff-boxes.

French jeweller, goldsmith, silversmith. Hallmark: J G. Born in an unknown location (early 18th century). Lived and worked in Paris, where he qualified as a master (1747) and opened a workshop (1752). Made Rococo furniture, lamps, carpets, clocks and jewellery (1752–65), including gold snuff-boxes with portraits of Empress Anna Ioannovna (whereabouts unknown) and Empress Elizabeth Petrovna (1757–58) based on a medallion by Johann Carl Hedlinger (1746) after a drawing by Louis Caravaque (1744). Died in Paris (1765), where his work was continued by his widow and his apprentice Beaulieu (1765–78).
