Pavel Zhukovsky

Painter, theatrical designer. Grandson of Gerhardt Wilhelm von Reutern, son of Vasily Zhukovsky and Elisabeth von Reutern. Born in the Free City of Frankfurt-on-Main (1845). Did not receive a special art education. Lived in St Petersburg, Moscow, Germany, Italy and France. Had a love affair with American writer Henry James in Paris (1876). Full member of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1893). Died in Weimar in Germany (1912). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1869). Contributed to the exhibitions of the Moscow Society of Lovers of the Arts (1869–96), Society for the Encouragement of the Arts (1879) and the Society of Artists of History Painting (1869).
