Elizaveta (Ekaterina) Krasnushkina

Elizaveta (Ekaterina) Krasnushkina (1858– after 1911): Russian painter, graphic artist. Studied battle-painting under Bogdan Gottfried Willewalde at the Imperial Academy of Arts and engraving under Andrei Somov, Victor Bobrov and Lev Dmitriyev-Kavkazsky. Lived and worked in Rome.

Painter, graphic artist. Born in the family of General Zakhary Krasnushkin (1816–1892) of the Don Cossack Host in the port of Taganrog on the Sea of Azov (1858). Grew up at 9 (now 37) Petrovskaya Street in Taganrog (1860s) and attended the Mariinskaya Grammar School for Girls (first half of 1870s). Studied battle-painting under Bogdan Gottfried Willewalde at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1876–82), where she once caused a commotion by riding a horse in class. Awarded a minor silver medal (1881), major silver medal (1881) and two minor silver medals (1882). Studied engraving under Andrei Somov, Victor Bobrov and Lev Dmitriyev-Kavkazsky (from 1882). Worked on an album of etchings in Moscow and St Petersburg (1883–87). Published works in the Fine Arts Herald (1883–88) and Painting Review (1894, 1896, 1897). Lived and worked in Rome (from 1894), where one of her works was acquired by King Victor Emmanuel III (1900s). Died in Italy or in St Petersburg (after 1911). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1881). Contributed to the exhibitions of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1881, 1882), St Petersburg Society of Artists (from 1894), exhibition in Moscow (1904) and the Biblioteca-Sala di lettura Gogol’ in Rome (1906).
