Ivan Grabovsky

Painter, graphic artist. Born in the family of Mikhail Grabovsky in Ekaterinburg (1878). Studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1894–1901) and under Pavel Chistyakov and Ilya Repin at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1902–09). Awarded the title of artist (1909). Painted Impressionist townscapes of St Petersburg and views of the port (1900s). Collaborated with satirical magazines during the 1905 revolution (1905). Founding member of the Fellowship of Independents (1910). Served on the trophy commission during the First World War (1914–18). Died in Petrograd (1922). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1896). Contributed to the exhibitions of the Fellowship of Artists (1907, 1908), Fellowship of Independents (1911–12), Venice Biennale (1914), Imperial Academy of Arts (1914–18), Arkhip Kuinji Society (1917, 1918), First State Free Exhibition of Works of Art (1919), Community of Artists (1922) and Exhibition of Pictures of Petrograd Artists of All Directions (1923).
