Vladimir Bondarenko

Vladimir Bondarenko (1866–1900): Ukrainian painter, graphic artist. Studied under Kyriakos Kostandi at Odessa School of Drawing, under Ivan Shishkin and Arkhip Kuinji at the Imperial Academy of Arts and at Ilya Repin’s studio in St Petersburg. Painted landscapes on the island of Balaam in Lake Ladoga.

Painter, graphic artist. Born in the family of Arkhip Bondarenko in the Ukraine (1866). Studied under Kyriakos Kostandi at Odessa School of Drawing (1880s), under Ivan Shishkin and Arkhip Kuinji at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1890–95) and at Ilya Repin’s studio in St Petersburg (1896–97). Awarded the title of third-class artist (1897). Visited the Balaam Monastery of the Transfiguration (1894) and painted landscapes on the island of Balaam in Lake Ladoga (1890s). Died at the age of thirty-four in an unknown location (1900). Contributed to exhibitions, including Russian Monasteries: Art and Traditions at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (1997).
