Mikhail Peskov

Painter, lithographer. Worked for the Irkutsk provincial government (1850–55). Studied history painting under Alexei Markov at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1855–63). Awarded minor silver medals (1859, 1860), a minor gold medal (1861) and a gold medal for expression (1862). Contributed three lithographs to the Russian Art Album (1861). One of the rebellious fourteen students who refused to paint the set topic in the competition for a major gold medal and resigned from the Imperial Academy of Arts with the title of class artist (1863). Founding member of the St Petersburg Artel of Artists (1863). Died of tuberculosis and buried in Yalta (1864). Contributed to the exhibitions of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1863) and the Society for the Encouragement of Artists (1867).
